Tony Fadell – Finished August 13th, 2023

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Tony Fadell was a part of the team that built the iPod, before leaving Apple to found Nest (the smart home company). This is a fascinating book about his journey through start-ups, big companies, and ultimately building something of his own. I found it a great book on making hard decisions, finding what inspires you, and building something great.

Explore Everything: Place-Hacking the City

Bradley L Garrett – Finished August 23rd, 2023

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

This is a fascinating book about the exploring cities around the world. Garrett talks about exploring skyscrapers under construction in Toronto, abandoned tube stations in London, the Paris catacombs, and more. He also explores the concept of freedom, and examines it through the lens of those (urban explorers) who stretch freedom to explore places not open to the public. It’s a fascinating read, and though I don’t think I’ll do any urban exploration any time soon, it was fun to live vicariously through him.

David Simon – Finished August 8th, 2023

Rating: 4 out of 5.

David Simon spent a year with the Baltimore homicide detectives and recorded some of the cases they were involved in. It was interesting to see some of the goings-on in a city that you would never hear about. It was also inspiring to read about the grit and determination of the detectives. Interesting read, though a little long for my liking.

Wondering how I read so much? My biggest recommendation buy a kindle. Having a kindle means I can always have my books with me, and the kindle daily deals mean I can get great books for only a few dollars. It removes barriers to reading and helps me read so much more.
