It’s the stuff you leave out that matters. So constantly look for things to remove, simplify, and streamline. Be a curator. Stick to what’s truly essential. Pare things down until you’re left with only the most important stuff. Then do it again.

Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hansson – Rework

This quote highlights the importance of curation. Often with our work, we worry about quantity, when in reality it’s the quality that matters. Ask yourself, how little can I share to get my message across? Often, this act of refinement will make your message even clearer, as there’s no fluff surrounding it.

This is something that you can apply to your work and your life. In your work, look to remove excess from emails, presentations, communications, and your to-do list. In your life, this can be applied to the things you own and the activities that you take on. Think, what is truly essential? Focus on that.

Rework is a great book to challenge your thinking on the way you approach work. I highly recommend if you’re looking for a way to restructure how you approach your career, and want to focus your attention to get the highest returns.
